The First Year For The Majority
So you just joined a network marketing company. You were referred by your cousin's, dad's plumber named Jim. There is excitement everywhere. You just got off of your very first conference call and everybody is pumped up. This is supposedly the greatest business opportunity of all time! The call hosts are top earners and are raking in 6 figures per month. They give you all this rah rah about how you can make that and pretty soon you'll be making millions.
So you get off the call, you're super amped and ready to get to work. You talk to your upline and they tell you to create a warm list of everyone you know including your family, friends, coworkers and anyone else you can think of whose name has a letter of the alphabet in it. You proceed to contact everyone on your big list of over 100 people and tell them about how great this business is. You also mentioned that this juice your company sells cures cancer and contains some exotic fruit you can't even pronounce.
After exhausting this 'warm contact list' you are told to buy 'opportunity' leads. You then call these leads and use a call script. Feeling half awkward already, because you never did this before, the leads you talk to have already been contacted 10 times and rip your head off over the phone. Then you are told to cold call leads and even check the phone book. After this gets you back to exactly where you started you move on. Your up line then tells you to break out the big guns.
You are now told to start prospecting in any public area you can think of. Parks, malls, gyms, neighborhoods, doesn't matter. As long as there are people! You proceed with your duffel bag filled with CD's and business cards and robotically pass them out to everyone with a heart beat. In addition to this insanity you decide to print up hundreds of fliers and nail them to telephone poles and plaster them all over cars in the local Walmart parking lot.
For the people you actually do talk to you are instructed by your genius upline to send them to a replicated corporate website or prerecorded conference call that talks about the founders and product and how super awesome this company is!
A week goes by. Two weeks go by. A whole month goes by. You check to see how many people you sponsored and product you sold. Wow! A whopping $0. You continue to discuss your struggle with you upline and they recommend something way too predictable. "Just get out there and do more of what you're doing." You are shocked, confused and bewilderd. You thought you were going to make wheel barrows full of money. Turns out the only thing that resulted from this ego crushing experience was frustration, failure, rejection, embarrassment and tons of stress. And that was only a month. It's safe to say that you're not looking to forward to more of this for the rest of the year.
There Has To Be An Easier Way
You're absolutely right. There has to be an easier way and there is. You were out there selling and pitching a business to people who had no intention or idea to start a business. In order to make this whole process easier why not position you and your business in front of people who are actively searching for a business? People who are serious, motivated and entrepreneurial minded.
How is this accomplished you ask? By using the power of leverage. More specifically the leverage of the internet. By marketing you and your business online you can literally attract only the most qualified people that are really interested in what you have to offer. This is a million times easier and less frustrating compared to the above approach that millions of people get sucked into.
The people who follow this approach their first year in network marketing are able to generate laser targeted prospects, sell product and sponsor new distributors effortlessly. This is because there is no selling, telling, explaining and convincing if you know what you're doing online. The people are looking for you. Not the other way around. This makes things so much easier and allows you to focus more on growing your business and filling your team with leaders. Don't be another failure statistic.
