Once you know these things you will have a much better idea which marketing opportunities are worth your time and which ones are just a waste. For example, you may reach out to a younger crowd through social networking sites like FaceBook but go with specific message boards for an older crowd.

Remember here that you want to keep your focus. This means branching out with products and services that are tightly focused to one targeted market, rather than scattering your efforts to everyone under the sun. 

For instance, consider a popular blog that offers real product reviews within one niche. The reviews could actually be paid postings where an advertiser gives the product and pays for a positive plug. As long as the blog focuses on products the targeted audience is interested in, the audience will hang in there. Get unfocused and they will go away fast.
