Internet Marketing – a warning for Newbies!
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I have have an intense dislike of 'get rich quick' schemes and all those fools out there trying to pitch themselves as an 'Internet Guru' with little or no knowledge of the Internet or indeed business of any kind (sometimes with failed business careers behind them).
There are a number of people out there doing 'make money from blogging' thing ethically, and with a genuine desire to help others. And, for each one of them there are a million imitators cutting and pasting their content, who are quite prepared to lie and cheat you out of your money for bogus 'courses' promising to mentor you into making millions just like they have - they haven't made millions yet, you are their best hope. Their sites are illustrated with pictures of Ferraris, big houses and screens shots of massive Google Adsense or Clickbank payment screens (the names always blocked out in an attempt to make you believe it's actually theirs - trust me its not).
This kind of garbage is also usually accompanied by lyrical prose to describe how they discovered 'blogs' only a short time ago - despite the fact blogs have been around for years, how they were broke - and are now rich, how you can do it to with no effort - you barely have to work, and of course how honest they are in everything they are telling you... In true hard sell direct marketing style they are trying to become your friend - don't be fooled. These people fall into a number of categories;
- they are selling a 'course' which consists of nothing (or probably less) than you can get in a good book from Amazon - or even better for free via searches on Google
- they are trying to recruit you into a pyramid scheme of some form like the scam by 'Wayne van Dyke'
- they are luring you into buying reports, often outdated and naive, sometimes plain dishonest, on how to make money on the Internet cheating systems like Google Adsense
The bottom line is that if anyone is stupid enough to fall for any of this they really shouldn't be in any type of business on the Internet or not.
If you are determined to pursue an Internet Marketing career remember this, the Internet is a business just like any other - it requires hard work, intelligence and honesty. There is no easy or free rides no matter how much you pay. Don't fall under the spell of con-men - there are millions of them out there ready to empty your pockets. If you're the right sort of person you can find everything you want for free, operate on a shoe-string and still be successful.
