He built it but they did not come
He thought this would be a lot easier than it is turning out to be. He thought that if he built a good website, then they would come. Slowly at first but then they would come in their droves. He built it well, and on solid foundations, but they never came.
He fine tuned his website using all of the tools and knowledge available and moved quickly up the ranks. His aim was to be on the first page of search engine ranking. He looked deeply at his competitors to learn how they got to be on the first pages. He copied their techniques, where he could, to help get him alongside his competition. For a while he believed he was making progress. All along hoping that when he got to be on the first page, then they would come.
And then one-day suddenly he didn’t even exist for his website had disappeared completely. Now they will never come. And sure enough, even the odd stray randomly clicking Internet surfer stop coming. Bewildered and lonely he began to search for the cause of the disappearing website he had so meticulously built. Soon he discovered that a greater power had removed his presence from the search engine because of reasons unbeknown to him. Still they did not come.
He asked them to reconsider his website for he felt he had done nothing wrong. He made alterations to each page, tweaking here and there, adding and deleting various components in a desperate attempt to pacify the powers that be. But no matter what he does, he will have to wait. His wait could be weeks or even months. And the powers that be won’t speak to him through the written word. So he has to go on hoping that it will be all over soon. Still they will not come.
So he turned his attention to finding other ways in which to attract people to his website. He carefully built a spider’s web to catch them as they browse around the Internet. He sought advice from the experts and executed that advice swiftly. His is building his web bigger and bigger each day for the big webs catch more flies. Sometimes he learns that pieces of his web are not as strong as he had hoped and sections of his web collapse. It is not easy building a strong web, big enough to catch the prey. He is doing all that he can and still they do not come.
Each day he hopes that the powers that be release his website back into the wild; back into the wilderness of the World Wide Web where people have more freedom than most countries allow. He hopes that he can build a strong far reaching web to catch more prey than his competitors. When both of these hopes become reality then may be they will come.
But for now . . . they do not come.
